Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a popular public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a channel that hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates female representations in popular cultural narratives is founded and is directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to destroying the stereotypes that are associated with women in pop culture, she has also been working with issues that relate to the harassing women targeted by the media and others online. Sarkeesian who has an MA in the field of Social and Political Thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has delivered speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. At a young age she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. As a student, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. It was a girl who wanted to create an online series to examine the gender representations in games. But, she was the victim of online harassment. The attack did not stop her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered the determination of a feminist critic of media. Many awards have been presented to her for all of the contribution she has have made. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit explores the portrayals of women in contemporary pop culture.
