Madekwe, a British-Nigerian mixed race child, was born to an ethnically diverse family from South London. She has a father who is Nigerian as well as Swiss, while her mother is English. Her family was raised in the south London council estate and when she was fourteen, she attended The Brit School. In London, she studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in which her acting diploma was obtained. Madekwe was also a part of the comedy of 2008 How to Alienate and Lose Friends. She has performed in Little Sweet Thing, by Roy Williams, and Flight Path written directed by David Watson.
Madekwe was chosen to play Ashley Davenport in ABC's drama The Beautiful Life. The two-episode drama aired just 2 weeks at The CW and then it came to an end. Ashley Davenport, a character in ABC's Revenge drama series was cast to play Ashley Davenport. In May of 2013, it was announced that Madekwe, who had appeared on the show as a series regular for the past two seasons, would be leaving the show with a guest appearance on the premier episode of the new season. She starred as Tituba in the TV show Salem from 2014 until the year 2016. Madekwe wed her actor boyfriend Iddo goldberg on June 2012. In addition to Secret Diary of a Call Girl they also appeared in tandem on Salem and also he played an appearance with her on that show.

Ashley Leggat is a Gemini-nominated actress who was raised in an extended family. She was born to Patty and Roy Leggat. Ashley Leggat was born to Roy and Patty and her other siblings - Brett, Todd and Bram as well as Rob.
